Columbia Pike, known as Arlington’s International Main Street, is an eclectic mix of old meets new. You can enjoy cuisines from nearly every corner of the world at some of the area’s best family-owned ethnic restaurants or browse all kinds of unique ingredients at the many world markets.
Some of the most popular restaurants and attractions along Columbia Pike include Bangkok 54, Rincome Thai and the Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse.
To help preserve the Pike’s urban feel, an extensive revitalization effort is underway. The project will bring new development to the area and even includes future plans for a streetcar system. Penrose Square, a mixed-use development slated for completed in late 2011, will feature retail space as well as a rebuilt, 57,000-square-foot Giant supermarket. Similarly, Siena Park will feature a mix of residential and commercial space, replacing the old Safeway on the site with 32,000 square feet of retail and restaurants and 14,000 square feet of office space.
