Tips for Safe, Effective At-Home Workouts!

In this time of social distancing and self-quarantine, it’s important to exercise and maintain your physical and mental well-being. There is an abundance of workouts available online and through various apps. An excellent list can be found here.

Whatever fitness regimen you choose, it’s crucial that you work up a sweat in a safe, effective manner. Here are some tips to help you do so. Have a great workout!

Make sure your workout space is safe—Keep it clear of obstacles and obstructions, and make sure you have enough room to exercise.

Wear the right shoes—Ensure they have good grip. Avoid slippers, sandals, or socks alone.

Warm up and cool down properly—Before your workout, move for 10 to 15 minutes to get the blood pumping and your muscles warmed up. This could include jogging in place, high knees, jumping jacks, or air-boxing. For cooling down, do at least 5 to 10 minutes of full-body, lower-intensity movement and stretching to help prevent muscle soreness and stiffness.

Stretch—This goes for both before and after your workout.

Get enough sleep—For a great night’s rest, remove distractions such as electronics, bright lights, and noise at least 30 minutes before bedtime.

Hydrate—Drink water before, during, and after any type of workout to avoid cramps, fatigue, and cognitive issues.
